On a night honoring Seven Rupp, Smithsburg scored the go ahead touchdown with under two minutes to play and held on for a 24-21 win over host FSK in a non-league football matchup Friday at FSK High School.
FSK controlled the scoreboard through the middle of the game, building a lead as large as twelve points, before Smithsburg answered with two touchdowns in the final six minutes to complete the comeback in front of a full house.
FSK opened the scoring on its first drive, converting a touchdown reception and adding the extra point for a 7-0 lead. Smithsburg answered with a touchdown of its own, but a failed two-point conversion attempt left FSK ahead, 7-6.
Late in the first quarter, FSK's quarterback ran the ball in for a touchdown. The extra point followed, pushing the lead to 14-6.






Smithsburg cut into the deficit with a field goal with 17 seconds left in the second quarter, sending the teams to the half at 14-9. FSK's marching band performed the halftime show.





FSK extended its lead in the fourth quarter on another touchdown and extra point, going up 21-9.
Smithsburg answered with 6:24 remaining, scoring a touchdown and converting the extra point to pull within 21-16.









In the final two minutes, Smithsburg took its first lead of the game, scoring a touchdown and converting a two-point attempt to close out the 24-21 win.
Smithsburg (1-0) travels to Williamsport High School on Friday, September 11, at 6 p.m. FSK returns to action Thursday, September 10, against South Hagerstown in another non-league contest.
