Francis Scott Key's varsity boys soccer team defeated Smithsburg 5-0 Tuesday evening, with Harry Eiwen scoring three goals to lead the offense and the defense holding the visitors scoreless behind a night of physical, header-heavy play at the back.
FSK controlled the match from the first half and never let up, scoring twice before the break and adding three more in the second half to close out the shutout.
Eiwen opened the scoring with 5:04 left in the first half. Josh Lamb followed with less than two minutes remaining before halftime, putting FSK up 2-0 at the break.
Nate Maffucci extended the lead in the second half, scoring with 15:39 remaining. Eiwen added his second goal of the night with 6:37 left, and completed the hat trick with less than two minutes remaining, drawing "Hat Trick Harry" chants from the home crowd.
FSK's defense anchored the win throughout, winning a heavy share of contested balls in the air and limiting Smithsburg to little in the way of sustained pressure. The match played out under a sky that shifted from golden light early in the evening to reds, blues, and purples as the sun set behind the field.
The result gave FSK a five-goal margin built on a three-goal night from Eiwen and a defense that did not concede.
